Psalms 126 & 127 are part of the Songs of Ascent which is a series of songs that the Israelites will sing as they make their way to worship in Jerusalem during the major feasts of Israel.
Psalm 126 sings reminded the pilgrims of the posture of heart they need to adopt when they go through a difficult season. This message will give us practical handles on how we should we respond when we are in a season of waiting upon God for breakthroughs in our life and circumstances.
1. Looking back at your own life, when has God “restored your fortunes” in a way that filled you with joy and hope? How can remembering that season strengthen your faith now?
2. In your current situation, what might “sowing in tears” look like for you? What steps of faith can you take today even when the outcome is not yet visible?
3. How can we as a community encourage each other to keep sowing faithfully and waiting actively for God’s timing, especially during seasons of delay or difficulty?
Psalm 127 is a beautiful psalm that cuts through the fallacy of self-sufficiency. The psalmist summons our hearts back to a deep dependence upon God as our true source of sustenance and security.
